A Tidbit

My Topic Is Hate Crime

  • A hate crime is a crime perpetrated by a person with an animus towards another person or persons for no other reason than the fact that the victim(s)

  • crime belong to a segment of society of which the perpetrator does not approve. These segments of society could be race, nationality, religion, gender, age, disability, etc

  • Most people would probably say the most affected person of a hate crime is the intended victim. Certainly, the target of a hate crime is certainly traumatized, emotionally, mentally, and perhaps even physically if violence was involved.

  • Hate Crime often occur as a result of prejudice and ignorance a look of understanding about different among people and their tradition contributes to fear and intolerance.

  1. Shakyra,

This is good. I think people often misunderstand hate crime, or don't always connect a crime with a hate crime.

Some things that I think that you can also include in your major blog post are:
-- what percentage of crimes in Chicago were reported as hate crimes. What is your opinion? Do you think they were under-reported?

Also, what other types of crime are there? For instance, how can a person decide what is a gang-related murder and a hate crime?

Also, what kind of hope is there? How can we bring the number of hate crimes down?

    Great start!
