uptown still good

Well before we took our walk through Uptown, I had thoughts like: should we be out and walking around in a neighborhood like this, is it safe, what if they start shooting and one of us get hit. A lot of bad things about uptown ran through my mind, but what I discovered was that uptown is not all that bad. It’s just like any other community. While walking through uptown I saw a lot of similarities between here and my neighborhood. All the stores, the people, parks, and the good vibe it gave off. The only difference I saw was that down here there was a lot more buildings were towards my area its more houses.  So overall my opinion about uptown has changed. I think it’s just like any regular neighborhood. It has its good days, and bad days and it has its good people, and its bad people.

Uptown Community

On Thursday We Went On A Communtity Walk. What I Notice About Uptown That There Is A Lot Of  Resturant That You Can Go To But I Also Notice That There Is Less Trouble In The Evening. I Notice That Comparing To My Communtiy That They Have A  Lot Of Parks In Common. I Also Notice That There Is Less Gang Violence In My Communtiy.

Uptown Community

In the uptown community I discovered that there are many restaurants that you can go to such as McDonalds, Papa Rays and etc. Some things that are different in the neighborhood from mine is that there are more gang violence then where I am.

Roger's Park Garden Goals...
I'm a former resident of Rogers Park. I lived there for nine years. When I was younger it felt like home and such a healthy environment. Roaming aroung the neighborhood I would catch myself spotting a nice piece of greenary. All my neighbors had healthy plants in their gardens, and every morning I would catch the land-lord spraying the flowers in front of our building. It made the area have a sense of life and innocence. Yet, they're many backyard gardens than rooftops. The only rooftop garden that I know of in that area is the garden on the rooftop of the Rogers Park Church. Another place I would love to see a rooftop garden, is at the Fresh Morse Market. I feel that a rooftop should be here also because I always viewed this grocery store as an image that represents the Rogers Park area. Many people view the backyard gardening as "...a way to connect with nature in the city." Let's GO Chicago and former Rogers Park residents have really created ways to really support urban gardening in the community. Having kids and young teens participate as well. Getting closer to their goal of making organically grown food to be America's mainstay.

There's lots to be discovered about this topic in Chicago, and I hope that you'll all take a look at it some more. I think it's really interesting that this idea of urban gardening is so popular but not talked about as mainstream as it could be. Any ideas about why that might be? roof top gardening

Girl world went on a short field trip to a roof top garden on thursday June 28,2012 and it was very educatiomal we got to learn about the differant plants they grew and were they go  after they harvest them. Our tour guied jed  told girl world how about when they harvest the crops they give them to the hospital, so that they can have fresh vegetables to serve everyone.

what i learned on the roof top garden!

I learned that at the roof top garden ,there are alot of vegetables. It is really hard to grow vegetables on the roof top than it is on the ground,because they have to build the garden and carry dirt to the fifth floor.
 The vegetables there are organic ,and  they don't use pesticide.They  use marigolds instead of pesticide to keep bugs away. So, the vegetablews there are healthy. Those vegetables are used for patients from that hospital, and they also sell them at the farmer's market.

Roof-Top Garden

Typically when you hear garden you think of plants everywhere in the ground but last week the young ladies of Girl World 2.0 took a trip to a roof-top garden. The garden is located on top of the Weiss Hospital on the northside where all types of foods are grown. It's very different from any other gardens because the plants need to be watered more, it's very HOT and instead of dirt they have to use soil which were held in special crates they built from wood. It was a cool experience because you got to learn about how the garden function, the different foods and every water the plants yourself. I think it would be great if everyone got the chance to see the garden. P.s bring lots of sunscreen water and bring you favorite pair of shades or go when it's not that warm out.!!!

The Rooftop Garden

When we went to visit the rooftop garden, it didn't really turn out to be what I expected. I expected more plants and didn't really understand why it was in a parking lot type of space. Despite the location and weather, I really loved being there and learning about urban gardening. In the picture above, I learned that although many plants are similar, they shouldn't really be planted in the same space because the roots may become entangled and some plants may overcome others. I really enjoyed going there and I really want to visit another location that has an urban garden. It was really exciting!

What I Really Like At The Roof Top Garden is That We Got To Learn New Things About Plants.I Thought The Feild Trip Was A Nice Thing To Do One Thing I Did Not Like Was The Heat Because It Was Hot But When I Got My Water I Was Okay/Fine :)

Had fun last week with the girl world 2.0 when we went to see the roof top graden at Weiss Hospital I have a great time, Not only did i see things i never seen before but i got even closer with the girls in the program. I thought it was a great idea that someone thought about having a roof top graden growing everything that is in a regular graden is kool, I really hope to find out more about a roof top graden because i didnt get that much information because it was kinda hot out there. The questions that i did asked i had got  intresting answers :) Hope we go on more trips

Trip to the Roof Top Garden :)

Well when we went to the roof top garden it was really funn we all were laughing joking around and having fun learning about all the different types of plants. Although it was very hot I'd like to go back someday it was ALOT of fun :)
