Mandatory Birth-control for Adolescents/Teens

Most people may or may not agree with this article but I truly believe that birth-control should be mandatory for adolescents/teens. I chose this topic because I think everyone needs to know the information regarding adolescents/teens and pregnancies. Birth-control can really protect our youth from unwanted pregnancies and there will be a major decrease of adolescent/teen parents. Not everyone practices abstinence and although condoms can help avoid pregnancies, they can rip/break as well. An unwanted pregnancy can also get in the way of education and other life opportunities; baby-sitters aren’t always guaranteed.
Some hormonal contraceptives contain a small amount of man-made estrogen and progestin hormones but there is a birth-control that does not have any added hormones. These hormones work to prevent the body's natural cyclical hormones to avoid pregnancy. Pregnancy is prevented by a combination of factors. The hormonal contraceptive usually stops the body from ovulating. Hormonal contraceptives also change the cervical mucus to make it difficult for the sperm to find an egg. Hormonal contraceptives can also prevent pregnancy by making the lining of the womb unwelcoming for implantation.
There are numerous types of birth-control like oral contraceptives aka the pill, the patch, Depo-Provera (shot/injection), vaginal ring, implantable rods, intrauterine devices, the sponge, sterilization implant, surgical sterilization and IUD’s which have no hormones added. Birth-control is also 99.9 percent affective
Side effects of birth-control that’s not as severe are nausea, weight gain, sore or swollen breasts, small amount of blood, or spotting, between periods, lighter periods, and mood changes. Some side effects that maybe something to look into are abdominal pain (stomach pain), chest pain, headaches, eye problems (blurred vision) and swelling and/or aching in the legs and thighs. I would rather adolescents have minor side effects from birth-control then have long term , permanent effects from a pregnancy or abortion.
“Our statisticians said that if we told them the teen pregnancy rate and the child poverty rate of a city, they could almost predict where it would finish in the overall scheme of things...” Do you know the statistics for adolescent pregnancies and abortions? Well an estimated 16 million girls aged between 15-19 give birth every year, with 95% of these births occurring in developing countries. This makes up 11% of all births worldwide! Births to adolescents as a percentage of all births range from about 2% in China to 18% in Latin America and the Caribbean. Worldwide, just seven countries account for half of all adolescent births, which are Bangladesh, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria and the United States of America. In Ethiopia and Nigeria, more than 25% of patients had become pregnant before the age of 15 and more than 50% before the age of 18. Just like young women are bringing children in the world, they are taking innocent lives too because more than half of abortions are obtained by women under 25 years of age. The fact of the matter is that 35% of pregnant teenagers have an abortion and if birth-control was mandatory then abortions wouldn’t have to be a factor.
The world is becoming overpopulated by the second and adolescents/teens shouldn’t be the ones helping. A child isn’t capable of taking care of another child and if young individuals cannot act responsibly when having sex then by all means birth-control should be mandatory for young ladies who can reproduce. Adolescent/teen pregnancy not only affects me but it affects tax payers, parents, and other adolescents/teens as well. Since I don't condone abortion and I don't condone bringing children into unfavorable situations either, I am in favor of making birth-control a must. “Reducing teen pregnancy and birth is one of the most effective ways of reducing child poverty in the country.”
