Trayvon Martin Solidarity

Today, the Girl World 2.0 group wore hoodies and indulged in some Skittles and Arizona iced tea to show solidarity for the young man, Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman -- a
self-appointed vigilanti cop --on February 26th, 2012.

There are several of us who believe that Trayvon shouldn't have been shot, nor followed to begin with, and that his death was tragically unncecessary.

Personally, as an adult who works with youth, I was really saddened by the news of Trayvon's death. No life is so worthless as to shoot that person dead. I'm not sure anyone knows what was said between Trayvon and George Zimmerman in Trayvon's last few minutes, but it certainly wasn't worth shooting him over. I wonder what was going through Zimmerman's head...why did he shoot? Why did he think it was okay?

Anyway, we just wanted to show our support for Trayvon and his family. Group picture to come soon! RIP Trayvon. :-(

Healthy Relationships

If you're in a relationship it's important that it's a healthy one.
It's important that your comfortable & that you're being respected
as well as you respecting your partner.
What does a healthy relationship look like?
Monogamy, first & foremost I don't want to speak for
anyone but I only want someone who only wants me
Honesty, you might wanna pick a partner who doesn't lie to you all the time.
Respect, does your partner respect your thoughts & feelings.

TEENS NEED TO SPEAK UP FOR THEMSELVES!!!!

I picked this picture because it actually spoke to me. I feel that teenagers do not really have a oppertunity to help out their pearnts with bills, car notes, etc. teens should have their rights to do what they feel is right to do.As long as they are almost grown they should start making their own decisions.

Meet Girl World 2.0!

Hi! My name Xenia and I am a volunteer here at Girl World 2.0. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and I will be pursuing a Masters in Public Health in Fall 2012.

When I have free time, I love to read (books, blogs, articles, etc), write poems, paint, listen to music, play basketball, and enjoy time with family and friends.

I LOVE Girl World 2.0 because it gives me an opportunity to provide young women with a safe space where they can discuss issues that are important to them, issues that without Girl World they may not have had the outlet to express their concerns about or opinions on. I also love Girl World 2.0 because I always leave having learned something new from the girls and with a smile on my face.

R.I.P Trayvon martin

Hi,
It's again I just have something to say about Trayvon Martin I feel that Trayvon's killer should be in jail because I feel that he was not doing self defense because trayvon was just coming from the store and he was on his way home and his killer was following him for no reason. One reason I like about his family is that they WILL NOT give up because there should be justice for him. He bothered anyone so MY QUESTION IS "Why" why would anyone be so cruel to people.

About my Uniqueness

Going nowhere since We've reached the climax We're together, now we're undone Won't commit so we choose to Run away, do we separate Don't wanna give in So we both gave up Can't take it back

When you are in a healthy relationship you get to know the other person that you're trying to date. Also when you are in a relationship you take things slow so there will be no misunderstanding.

Meet Girl World 2.0!

Saarah is one of the instructors for Girl World 2.0.  (Sometimes people think she's still in high school, which makes her wonder if she needs to stop wearing t-shirts and sneakers all the time.)

A college graduate from the University of Illinois, Saarah's interests include writing and media production. She loves having a job that lets her explore these interests further with the help of some pretty awesome ladies.

Hello Hello!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Cassandra. I'm one of the Co-facilitators of Girl World 2.0. Some not so important but interesting things about me: I'm a Pisces, I love independent and/or foreign films, I like food (all kinds of food) -- but I could eat pasta and soup any day all day. My music preferences are not exclusive to any one genre, but I do like music that incorporates diverse sounds or has an ensemble feel, maybe a good vocal sound, something I can dance to, cry to, or just jump up and say, "I love this song."

I love being a "girl"/woman because I think we have a lot to offer the world, but I also think we have a new front to fight all the time to make sure we stay on equal ground at the end of the day. This is why I love Girl World. It's one of life's reminders of what we're made of, and it's so wonderful to know that there is another generation of young, intelligent women picking up the pace to let others know what women are all about. They give a counter voice to what mainstream media wants the general population to think about women. I agree. Let us think for ourselves. Enjoy our blogs. :)
